As many as 115 of the 213 patients who had been hospitalised after they inhaled ammonia that leaked from a tanker are still undergoing treatment in 10 government and private hospitals of Ludhiana. The rest were discharged on Saturday night and Sunday.
Seven patients are still admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of various hospitals.
Five people had been killed in the gas leak from a tanker after it hit an underbridge near Doraha town, 25 km from Ludhiana, on the Delhi-Ludhiana highway late on Friday night.
Twenty-three patients are admitted in Lord Mahavira Civil Hospital Ludhiana, 23 in Christian Medical College and Hospital, 17 in Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, 23 in Satguru Pratap Singh Hospital, five in Mohan Dai Oswal Hospital, five in Sahnewal community health centre, one at Fortis Hospital, one at Payal community health centre, one at Khanna civil hospital and 16 at Ivy Hospital, Khanna.
Nodal officer of the hospitals and deputy medical commissioner (DMC) Dr Jasbir Singh Chauhan said admitted patients were out of danger, but five were critical and needed observation.
Officiating deputy commissioner GK Singh Dhaliwal said, “To make sure that the victims get proper treatment and there is no panic, senior medical officers (SMO's) and duty magistrates have been deputed in all 14 government-run hospitals of the district till further orders. The cost of treatment of all these patients will be borne by the Punjab government.”
