Nearly three months after the gangrape of a five-star hotel employee in a moving car, a local court on Friday sentenced the two prime accused to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs one lakh each.
The court handed out a 20-year sentence and fine of Rs 50,000 to the third accused, who was held guilty of helping the two main accused.
After thoroughly scrutinising the statements of 22 witnesses in the case, additional sessions judge Priya Sood gave the verdict in 23-year-old victim’s favour.
“While handing out the judgment, the judge observed that it is the most heinous act of crime against woman and society in general therefore; no leniency would be taken in the case,’ said sources.
“It’s a landmark judgment. The court has given its final verdict in less than three months after the incident,” said additional public prosecutor Sukhchain Singh.
“In case, the third accused fails to pay the fine, the court has the jurisdiction to further extend his jail term by 6 months,” said the vicitim’s counsel. The fine money will be paid to the girl’s family as compensation.
The girl was abducted on March 8 by the three accused, Sunny Kumar, Mohan Kumar and Badal, while she was on her way back to her rented accommodation after completing her shift at 1 am.

After running a background check on accused, the police also established that they were habitual offenders and had been booked under various cases.
