Well-known young painter Manjot Kaur, who was among the 30 under 30 achievers, honoured by HT, has been chosen for the Sohan Qadri fellowship of Rs. 1 lakh by the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi.
“The Fellowship aims at providing talented artists a platform to develop new ideas in their disciplines and to encourage a deeper engagement with art,” says Bheem Malhotra, Chairperson of the Akademi.
The Fellowship is aimed at providing talented artists a platform to develop new ideas in their disciplines and to encourage a deeper engagement with art and has been instituted by Purvi Qadri who runs the Sohan Qadri Foundation in the memory of her late father. Sohan Qadri was a celebrated painter.
Expressing gratitude to the akademi, Manjot says: “People, places, nature and natural surroundings form the basis of my work, as a result I am working outside studio and gallery spaces, with performance and land art an extension of my paintings and this will help me take my work to the next level”.
Besides, the Akademi has given a travel grant of Rs 25, 000 to three artists of the tricity to enable them to travel to other states and interact with artists there with a view to enlarge their horizon. The three artists are sculptor Geetika Pathania, painter and print-maker Manisha Verma and sculptor Bebekanand Kapri.
