Thieves stole Rs 3.64 lakh after breaking open an automated teller machine (ATM) of Oriental Bank of Commerce at Jalalpur village near Tanda in this district on Sunday.
The miscreants blurred the CCTV cameras with a black spray and then cut open the cash box with a gas cutter.
The night security guard was on duty till 5 am. The incident took place around 5.20 am. The video footage reveals a man with a monkey cap approaching the ATM. Assistant manager Kulwinder Singh said a passerby noticed the broken machine and informed the villagers who sounded bank officials and police.
Deputy superintendent of police Parminder Singh and Tanda station house officer Jagdish Raj Attri reached the site and started investigation.
On October 7, an ATM of State Bank of India at Bulhowal was taken away which contained Rs 9.1 lakh. The accused are still at large. On Saturday, an unsuccessful bid was made to break open an ATM of State Bank of Patiala at Garhshankar.
