Sacrilege case: Suspect thrashed in Moga village

A group of people of Daulatpura village here in Moga beaten up a man for allegedly throwing ‘Gutka’ (a small book of essential verses from Guru Granth Sahib) and wrecking of holy photos after entering into a religious place in the village on Monday.

A group of people of Daulatpura village here in Moga beaten up a man for allegedly throwing ‘Gutka’ (a small book of essential verses from Guru Granth Sahib) and wrecking of holy photos after entering into a religious place in the village on Monday.

The accused identified as Harpreet Singh alias Sonu, a resident of Daulatpura who has sustained serious injuries, is undergoing treatment at the Civil Hospital.

Assistant sub-inspector Amarjit Singh of Sadar Police Station said after receiving information of the sacrilege incident, they reached the village.

“When we reached the spot, we found that about 30 people were beating Harpreet allegedly for the sacrilege of two Gutkas and we somehow scattered the crowd and brought injured to the hospital,” Amarjit said.

On the complaint of Resham Singh, a member of Damdami Taksal the police have booked Harpreet under the section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion) of the Indian Penal Code.

Meanwhile, Jaswant Singh, father of the accused and also a member panchayat, said his son was innocent and alleged that some people of the village were trying to take revenge.
