Sacrilege in Ludhiana: 28-yr-old man held for tearing pages of Guru Granth Sahib

The police scanned CCTVs installed in the Gurudwara and found a man tearing pages of the holy book.

Tension prevailed in Mundian of Jamalpur on Tuesday evening, when the torn pages of Shri Guru Granth Sahib were found in the Gurudwara Sahib premises. As the news spread, people from the area huddled at Gurudwara Sahib. Local police also reached the spot to control the situation and initiated the investigation.

The police scanned CCTVs installed in the gurdwara and found a man tearing pages of the holy book.

Acting swiftly, the police have arrested the accused, who is identified as Sukhvir Singh, 28, of Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar. The accused was a regular visitor there.

According to police, the accused entered the gurdwara in the evening and went back after tearing the pages of Shri Guru Granth Sahib. Some time later the torn pages were found in the premises and the matter was reported to the police.

The intention of accused and reason behind the sacrilege is not yet clear, said SHO of police station Jamalpur. The police have started the proceedings to register case for hurting religious sentiments against the accused.
