Cracking on an Ambala-based production company for evading service tax, the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) recovered around Rs 3 crore after a raid on its premises on Thursday evening.
The company has reportedly rendered services to the units of Bollywood movies such as Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Dangal’, Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ and comedian Kapil Sharma’s upcoming ‘Firangi’, being shot in Rupnagar.
The raids were conducted in Ambala by teams of the Ludhiana directorate general of central excise intelligence (DGCEI), which has northern region under its jurisdiction.
A DRI official, on condition of anonymity, said raids were conducted at commercial premises of the PJ Productions at Model Town area in Ambala.
It was established that the group owner had been operating different units such as Vicky Travellers, Vicky Caterers and Jaskirat Productions. All these units were operating from Ambala, but were registered at an address in Dera Bassi. These units had not submitted service tax for the past couple of years.
Even as the raids were on, the DRI sleuths recovered an outstanding service tax amounting to Rs 3 crore through a cheque from the company on the spot, the official said.

The production group has been rendering services in the form of film sets, catering, luxury cars and vanity vans, among other things, to renowned Bollywood producers shooting in the region.
The company has recently signed contracts with the producers of Salman Khan-starrer ‘Tubelight’ and Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Toilet.’
