Owing to shortage of teachers in government schools, it is students who are at the receiving end.
The shortage of teachers, lecturers and principals in government schools has been reflected in the poor results, while students of private school have cornered glory.
In Class-10 results this year, around 1.28 lakh students of government schools failed to score passing marks out of total 4.19 lakh in the state.
Similarly, the Class-12 results, too, were not encouraging as a number of posts of teachers are vacant in government schools.
In Mansa, 6,713 students in Class 11 and 5,398 in Class 12 are perusing their studies in 175 government secondary schools, where around 50% posts of teachers are lying vacant.
There are 43 sanctioned posts of principals, out of which only nine have been filled in government senior secondary schools, whereas only 190 posts of lecturers are filled against 324 sanctioned posts.
Similarly, in Bathinda, 50 posts of principals and 173 posts of lecturers in government senior secondary schools are lying vacant. In Barnala, 18 posts of principals and 104 posts of lecturers are vacant. In Fazilka, 28 posts of principals and 120 of lecturers are vacant, while in Faridkot, eight posts of principals and 40 of lecturers are vacant.
Mansa district education officer (secondary) claimed that in recently declared Class-12 result of the Punjab School Education Board, 4,612 students in government senior secondary schools in the district appeared in the Arts stream and 3,806 passed the examination. In the Science stream, 152 students were declared pass out of total 195, whereas in the Commerce stream, 137 students out of 163 cleared the exam. "The government is going to appoint teachers soon. Despite shortage of teachers in Mansa, we had achieved success with two Class-12 girls on the merit list."

{{/usCountry}}Speaking to HT, SAVE Education Committee convener Darshan Singh Dhillon said, "At government senior secondary schools at villages of Akkanwali, Bhadra, Hodla Kalan, Gandukalan, Jhanduke, Kusla, Meerpurkalan, Raippur, Ahlupur, Reondkalan, Sadda Singh Wala, Ubbha, Burjdhilwan, Joga, Sangha, Bhamekalan, Boha, Nangal kalan, Phaphade Bhaike (boys), Bhikhi (boys), Datewas, Karandi and Sardulgarh (boys), there is no teacher for political science, history, Punjabi and English for the past 30 years."
The government should appoint teachers in government schools as it's a right of students, Dhillon said, adding that the state government, by not appointing teachers in government schools, is just giving a boost to private schools, which goes against the poor.
