The special screening of ‘Udta Punjab’ movie was held at Nehru Planetarium in Mumbai on Tuesday evening. The screening organised by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) started around 4pm.
Bombay high court lawyer Sujay N Kantawala, who has been appointed the amicus curiae (adviser) by the Punjab and Haryana high court, said over phone that he along with petitioner Wattan Sharma and lawyers of the CBFC and movie producer attended the screening. Refraining from commenting on the movie’s content, Kantawala said: “There was no acrimony. It was a good experience. A report (about the movie) will be submitted before the high court on Thursday.”
The Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday had ordered a special screening of the film before a panel to examine its content. The order had come on the petition of high court lawyer and Jalandhar resident Wattan Sharma, who had stated that Punjabi culture had been portrayed in a “bad light” in the movie and its unedited version be examined by court.
The petitioner’s lawyer, Karan Bharihoke, also refused to comment on the movie, and said they are yet to decide whether to file any objections or not. “It is too early for us to comment. We are examining (the content of the movie). Let him (amicus curiae) file a report,” he said.
