Former deputy Speaker of Punjab assembly Darbari Lal feels that the Congress has suffered a drubbing in the assembly elections due to "wrong allocation" of tickets by the state party unit.
Lal who was denied the Congress ticket in this election says, "The major reason for the party's defeat is that most candidates in the fray did not deserve party tickets as they were not fit to contest elections." Lal had earlier successfully contested assembly polls on Congress ticket three times.
He claimed that five Assembly seats in Amritsar which were Congress strongholds were lost as the tickets were given to 'undeserving' candidates.
Similarly seats in Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts were lost as the state leadership did not listen to experienced politicians who were capable of guiding the party he said.
He also praised SAD chief Parkash Singh Badal for distributing party tickets well before the elections.
He said Congress distributed tickets just a few days before the polls as a result of which a majority of the candidates were not prepared to contest elections.
Lal alleged that state Congress president Amarinder Singh was surrounded by his coterie who did not allow him to consult politically sound people about distribution of tickets.
