Razif Anwar alias Rapper Chriss has released a rap song on YouTube to mark the anniversary of the horrific December 16 Delhi gang rape which shook the nation.
Chriss bats for respect for women and gender equality in his song. He says he wants to give a message to the youth of the country. The song expresses his angst and anger over the incident which led to the death of a 23-year-old girl.
“Such incidents defame all men and bring shame to a civilised society. How can such appalling incidents occur in a country where people worship goddesses like Laxmi and Durga,” said Chriss.
He belongs to Jamshedpur and currently lives in Mumbai. So far, only movies based on real-life incidents have been made, he says. However, I decided to release a rap song which is also a medium of entertainment. Chriss feels that such mediums prove to be powerful to drive home a message.
“As rap music has become popular in India and is liked by the youth, I have chosen to express my feelings through a rap song,” he said.
The rapper was in Delhi at the time of the incident and had penned the song a few days after the crime in 2012. However, he could not release it because of some controversies at the time.
“I have chosen to release it on the internet due to its controversial theme. I had approached some music channels but they refused to release it,” said Chriss.

{{/usCountry}}In his song, he puts across the point that perpetrators of such crimes should be treated with the utmost severity by the judiciary so that it becomes an example for others. “Since our childhood we learn that all Indians are our brothers and sisters. Then why do some people stoop to such low levels of humanity when they see a girl alone,” he said.
The artist hopes that his song forces people to think about the issue and helps in reducing such crimes in the country. “I hope to move the conscience of the youth through the song,” he said.
