South Indian movie actress Revathi will star in Miriam Chandy Menacherry’s Homestay Blues that is part of the ongoing Film Bazaar’s co-production market. The Bazaar runs along with the International Film Festival of India.
Homestay Blues will begin its shoot in August 2014, and will be a bilingual movie in English and Malayalam. Kerala actor Fahadh Faasil will also be part of the cast.
The story revolves around a young man, who, disillusioned with the West, returns to his native Kerala and rides the tourism boom by running a homestay business for foreign visitors.
Revathi has had an illustrious career that has of late seen her helm movies like Mitr, My Friend, Phir Milenge, Kerala Café and Mumbai Cutting. Her acting career has of course spanned across the cinemas of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra, Karnataka and Mumbai. Menacherry’s credit includes a documentary, The Rat Race that garnered critical acclaim. Homestay Blues will be her first feature.
Another film that has been part of the co-production market, Gurvinder Singh’s The Fourth Direction, will begin its principal photography in January 2014. The movie will be jointly funded by a French company and the National Film Development Corporation of India as well as a couple of more Indian firms.

Yet another movie that has passed through the Film Bazaar and secured funding is Anup Singh’s Over The Rainbow, which will be produced by a Swiss company. Singh – whose Qissa with Irrfan Khan has had an impressive run through the festival circuit – will set his latest work in Afghanistan (but may shoot in neighbouring Turkey as both countries have similar landscapes). Over The Rainbow traces the lives of two people, an American pilot and an Afghan-Pakistani woman as they travel across the war-ravaged Afghanistan.
Some of the other films in the co-production market are Marathi director Umesh Kulkarni’s (The Wild Bull, The Well) Highway, Govind Nihalani’s Holy Fire, Shyam Benegal’s Road to Freedom, Bikas Ranjan Mishra’s debut Wild Fire, Prasanna Jayakody’s (from Sri Lanka) 28-Sri and Valeria Sarmiento’s (UK) Amok.
