If you thought Amitabh Bachchan in R Balki’s Paa or Tamil superstar Vikram as a hunch-backed man in Tamil director Shankar’s 2014 stunner I were the last words in the art of make-up in our films, wait till you’ve seen National School of Drama’s Sandeep Bharadwaj play Veerappan in Ram Gopal Varma’s just released film, Killing Veerappan. The film, based on the notorious sandalwood smuggler, has been in the news for the striking similarity between the real and reel versions of the forest brigand.

While RGV is being lauded for his perfect ‘find’, the real star of the film, by any stretch of imagination, is make-up artist Vikram Gaikwad. Days before the release of Killing Veerappan (January 1), the director shared a picture of the actor and his character, and, it is clear that the real credit in creating the look goes to Gaikwad.
