{{/usCountry}}The 33-year-old's life was shattered after the incident on October 17, 2015, a fight with Williams. Since then, the 33-year-old's family has been all about his parents, Richard and Nieves taking care of their ailing son.
Prichard's life centered around his father mostly, as he built his boxing career in Florida and rose to international fame in the mid 2000s. Richard, a former boxer himself, was the cornerstone of Prichard Colon's career and was his coach till his very last fight.
But since suffering the devastating injury nearly a decade earlier, his life has revolved around his mom, Nieves Colon. For the last 11 years, Nieves Colon has been a steadfast support to Prichard as he survived near-insurmountable health challenges. His condition even briefly improved as in 2018 the Washington Post had reported that Prichard Colon had started speech therapy.
Nieves had revealed that she was waiting for Prichard outside the ring after the October 17, 2015, fight. He reportedly walked down to her, put his arms on her shoulders, and told her that he was feeling dizzy. Since then, she has been Prichard's primary caregiver. Following her divorce with Richard, Prichard moved into her Florida house, and she became her principal day-to-day caregiver.
According to a 2017 ESPN report, she was in charge of his daily care at her home while Richard would visit every day to help. She had told ESPN that, over time, she learnt how to manage Prichard's equipment, how he needed to be repositioned, and every other detail related to his medical care.
