Tyrod Taylor came in to replace Jordan Love as the quarterback during the Denver Broncos versus Green Bay Packers NFL game on August 21. The veteran QB faced flak during the game from many fans, as they didn't like his play style.
A Packers reporter for USA Today noted “Jordan Love's day, and presumably his preseason, is done. Tyrod Taylor trotting onto the field.”

Jordan Love's preseason is wrapped up not due to injury, but because the Green Bay Packers prefer to protect their star quarterback from unnecessary injury risks. Head coach Matt LaFleur makes use of limited early snaps and joint practices as a safe tune-up instead of playing starters in the preseason August games.
Tyrod Taylor faces flak online
Taylor, meanwhile, has been facing flak from the time he came on. One person wrote “This can’t possibly be our backup quarterback bro cause he’s terrible.” Another added “I don’t wanna over react too soon. But Tyrod Taylor looks like turbo dogsh*t right now as QB2. He’s a solid vet so maybe he’ll be fine but he looks pretty terrible.”

However, the criticism seems to have been somewhat unwarranted as Tyrod Taylor connected with Will Sheppard for a touchdown. A video of the moment was shared on social media.
However, the overall performance might have left something to be desired, as many fans appeared concerned nonetheless. “Packers need a serviceable backup QB. Tyrod Taylor is just not it,” one remarked. Another said “Are we sold on Tyrod Taylor as the backup? Kyle McCord is showing better, and the thought of him as our backup is frightening.”
Tyrod Taylor at Green Bay Packers
Taylor signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Green Bay Packers on May 4, 2026, joining the team as the primary backup behind starting quarterback Jordan Love. Prior to this, he was played for the New York Jets from 2024 to 2025.
Taylor has had some injuries throughout his career, the most notable being in 2020, when a Los Angeles Chargers team doctor accidentally punctured his lung with a pain-killing injection meant to treat cracked ribs. It led to a medical malpractice lawsuit.
In the 2025 season, he had a minor knee injury and a groin injury that kept Taylor out for some time. Taylor is 37 years old. Throughout his career, he's managed passing for 13,033 yards, 73 touchdowns, and 34 interceptions with a 61.8% completion rate across 100 games.
