“we're launching @TwitterBlue on Monday - subscribe on web for $8/month or on iOS $11/month to get access to subscriber-only features, including the blue checkmark,” said Twitter on Sunday.

Here are some features of the subscription service, as announced by the San Francisco-headquartered company:

(2.) A gold checkmark will replace the ‘official’ label for businesses, and a grey checkmark will replace the label for governments and government organisations.

(3.) Subscribers will also get access to the Edit Tweet feature, as well as higher quality video uploads (1,080p), and a ‘reader mode.’

(4.) Users will be able to change their handle, display name or profile photo. However, this would lead to a temporary loss of the blue tick, as the account will again be reviewed.

What is Twitter Blue?

One of the first decisions taken by Musk at Twitter was that users will have to pay a monthly fee ($8) to maintain their verified status, which, until then, was free of cost, but reserved for organisations and public figures only.

The initial version of Blue was launched in early November; however, it was suspended days later as the platform got flooded by accounts impersonating celebrities or organisations.

The billionaire entrepreneur and Tesla CEO had promised the return of the service by November-end, but then said the project would be ‘temporarily halted.’

How much to pay for Twitter Blue?

While Android users will continue to pay $8 per month, the price has been increased for iPhone owners, for whom it will cost $11 per month. In raising the price for iPhone, Musk has kept the 30 per cent cut charged by Apple on revenue from iOS apps on its App Store.
