A tortoise that went missing three and a half years ago was finally reunited with its owners with the help of the staff at Florida’s Wildest Animal Rescue.

The animal shelter shared the heartwarming story on Facebook, stating, “A truly unbelievable story, it just goes to show you to never give up hope!”

The organisation further added, “She was missing for 3 1/2 years and found 5 miles away from where she originally escaped. She is in a little bit of rough shape from spending so many cold winters here without heat, but she will be okay, and we recommended a trip to the vet. What a happy ending! We are so happy we were able to assist in reuniting her with her family!”
The tortoise was found wandering around Putnam County, Florida, and was immediately taken to Florida’s Wildest Animal Rescue. The tortoise owners were finally found after a 24-hour search on social media, reports Newsweek.
The outlet further reported that Gabby from Florida’s animal shelter was able to identify the tortoise by matching its markings to those in a picture shared by the owners on social media in April 2020, when it had first gone missing. “I compared identifiable features, like holes in the shell from an old dog bite when she was small, and some other marks,” Gabby told Newsweek.
