Drashti Dhami has been away from the tube for almost a year now. But the actor will soon return to the small screen with a new project, which is set in the pre-Independence era. Drashti’s character in this show will be different from her earlier roles in Madhubala and Geet.
“I have played the modern girl as well as the dutiful bahu on TV, but this time, I will be seen in a vintage look. The feel of the show is different.”
As part of her preparation, Drashti had to be careful about her vocabulary and diction. “My director has taken a lot of care to change my style of acting,” she says.
In the past, several reports have claimed that Drashti was offered film projects, but she couldn’t take them up because of her show commitments. But the actor refutes the rumours, saying, “It was not that I was bombarded with scripts. I didn’t get overwhelming movie offers. I am comfortable and happy doing TV,” she says.
Getting married often impacts an actress’ image in films. Ask Drashti if a similar perception exists in TV, and she says, “I don’t think any heroine’s marital status matters. On TV, it’s all about the character. We have so many married actresses playing lead roles on TV shows. We are probably more married on TV than in real life.”
