Television actor Karan Mehra, popularly known by his screen name Naitik in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, has always played the good boy on screen. Last seen in Bigg Boss and Khatmal E Ishq, the actor now wants to focus on character driven roles.

Karan is currently on a sabbatical, as he and his wife Nisha Rawal are expecting their first child. But when he gets back to work, he won’t restrict himself to one genre. He feels that Bigg Boss helped him reach out to his audience and the exposure he got on the reality show will help him get accepted in different genres.
“I enjoyed my stint on Bigg Boss and made some amazing friends — Gaurav (Chopra), Bani (Judge), Rohan (Mehra) and Rahul (Dev) bhai. The show brought me close to my audience. I also wanted them to know me more than what they see me playing on-screen. For me, it was necessary to make this connection with the audience that hopefully would last for long. I hope it’ll also let them accept me in various genres. Also, I want more of character driven roles to further explore my creativity,” says Karan.
The actor explored comedy with television show Khatmal E Ishq. Talking of his character, Karan says, “People reacted positively to it and it’s time I explore more comic characters—but certainly not forced comedy. A lot of shows make you laugh forcefully and they aren’t my kind of thing. Negative characters are also interesting to portray.”
