TV shows don’t need to teach society anything: Shakti’s Rubina Dilaik

TV actor Rubina Dilaik feels that entertainment need not always impart education, it’s also about people just having fun while switching channels.

TV actor Rubina Dilaik is happy that her show – Shakti, Astitva Ke Ehsaas Ki, in which she plays a transgender, is getting appreciated and acknowledged by the audience.

“It’s a big compliment because TV for the longest time was ruled by saas bahu sagas and love stories, and then came our show, which is totally out of the league, ” says Rubina who became a household name with her previous TV show Choti Bahu.

She feels there is nothing wrong if the audience enjoys supernatural themes such as naagins, dayans or reincarnation. “Till the time audience enjoys what we are trying to bring out in the name of different concept, all goes well with the entertainment segment.”

But what about times when viewers tag these concepts as cheap TRPs tricks? “For me, TRPs are a secondary thing. If I am doing a good show and I am satisfied with it, and can convey a message or bring a change in the thought process of the society, my purpose is served.” Rubina, however, maintains that if audiences’ acceptance boosts the TRPs of a show, it’s a good thing.

So will she be comfortable and keen on taking up such a show anytime soon? “Well, I’m always clear of what I want to do and my current choice of work pretty much shows it. If I wanted to do something other than what I am currently doing, I would have been doing that on television two years back,” she clarifies.
