The Israeli military claimed that it struck 50 Hamas targets in just 6 minutes in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis city, in what is seen as a major escalation ahead of possible Ramadan ceasefire. The intense wave of Israeli airstrikes was meant to enable ground soldiers to breach new territories in Khan Younis. The IDF then launched a “surprise assault” on Hamas militants and claimed to neutralise an unspecified number of fighters. The Israeli military is looking to maximise gains ahead of the possible Ramadan truce.
