- Just 4 days after India imposed a ban on wheat exports, the global wheat prices soared at a record 6% on Monday. Claiming that India's move will only aggravate the global food crisis, the U.S. demanded that India reconsider its decision. U.S. permanent representative to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, opined that Washington believes India will lift restrictions imposed recently on wheat exports. While previewing the United States initiatives on food security in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Linda Thomas-Greenfield said, “India will be one of the countries participating in our meeting at the Security Council, and we hope that they can, as they hear the concerns being raised by other countries, they would reconsider that position.” Watch this video for more details.
