President Donald Trump used his address at the 80th United Nations General Assembly to sharply criticize European leaders for continuing Russian energy purchases, calling it “embarrassing” and accusing Europe of funding the Ukraine war against itself. Trump demanded immediate cessation of all Russian energy imports by Europe and threatened punitive tariffs unless a unified strategy is adopted to pressure Moscow. He linked energy dependence with weak border policies and migration issues, warning Europe is headed for “serious trouble” due to open borders and green energy “scams.” Immediately after, Trump met with EU President Ursula von der Leyen to push his agenda for coordinated action, tough border controls, and tighter security.
