U.S. War Secretary Pete Hegseth delivered a forceful address outlining President Donald Trump’s defence priorities, warning that narco-terrorist groups smuggling drugs into the United States will be hunted and destroyed. He said the Department of War is intensifying military operations across the Western Hemisphere to dismantle cartel networks, describing them as the “Al-Qaeda of our hemisphere.” Hegseth detailed plans to strengthen border security through specialised military units, closer cooperation with Mexico, and expanded wall construction, while stressing that America’s borders should be the last—not first—line of defence. He also highlighted the “Golden Dome for America” missile defence initiative, nuclear modernisation plans, and U.S. commitment to deterrence across the Indo-Pacific. Addressing relations with China, Hegseth said Washington seeks stable peace and fair trade while maintaining unquestionable military strength. He also warned U.S. allies that those who fail to carry their share of collective defence responsibilities will face consequences, while reliable partners will receive stronger support.
