A 25-year-old Hindu factory worker, Dipu Chandra Das, was brutally lynched and his body set on fire by a mob in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh region following accusations of blasphemy. The gruesome incident, which occurred on December 18 in Bhaluka upazila, involved the victim being beaten, hanged from a tree, and burned on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, disrupting traffic. Bangladesh's interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, strongly condemned the "heinous crime," promising justice and urging citizens to resist mob violence during this "critical moment" of democratic transition. This attack occurs amidst heightened national instability following the killing of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, which has sparked widespread protests, and a reported surge in anti-minority violence since the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2024.
