‘Cold war mentality’: QUAD meet rattles China; Blames US for confrontation

As US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Melbourne ahead of the QUAD meet of foreign ministers, China has hit out at the leaders. Blaming the US for trying to trigger a confrontation, China's foreign ministry said that the QUAD as a bloc was not ready to give up the cold war mentality even as China wanted peace. The ministry accused the US of forming blocs and attempting to force its style of democracy. Beijing had earlier denounced the Quad as a Cold War construct and a clique targeting other countries. This is the fourth such ministerial-level meet of the Quad ahead of the crucial meeting of US President, India's PM, Japan PM and Australian PM's meet in Japan later this year.
