Eilat on edge: IDF drills in Gulf amid fears of Jordanian attack mirroring Hamas' October 7 horror

Is Israel facing the possibility of a new security front far from Gaza and Lebanon? Fresh reports suggest Israeli security agencies are increasing their focus on Eilat, the country’s only Red Sea port, amid military drills, suspected infiltration attempts, and warnings about potential future threats. The IDF recently conducted a military exercise in the Gulf of Eilat and the Golan Heights involving security forces, naval vessels, and military vehicles. The drill came shortly after reports of a suspicious jet ski allegedly attempting to enter Israeli waters from Jordan, raising concerns about possible attempts to test Israel’s defence readiness. Meanwhile, Haaretz reported that Shin Bet chief David Zini warned of a possible large-scale attack scenario targeting Eilat, allegedly drawing parallels with Hamas’ October 7 attack. The reported scenarios included infiltrations from Jordan or through the sea, though local officials stressed that there is no concrete intelligence pointing to an immediate threat. As tensions continue across the Middle East, questions are growing over whether Israel’s security challenges are expanding beyond Gaza and Lebanon. Is Eilat becoming the next strategic flashpoint in a rapidly changing regional battlefield?
