Cong's Sunil Jakhar on Channi, Sidhu and why he is quitting electoral politics

On the day Congress MP Rahul Gandhi declared that Charanjit Singh Channi will be the Congress' Punjab CM candidate for the upcoming assembly election, the party's former state chief Sunil Jakhar declared that he was quitting electoral politics. In an explosive interview with Hindustan Times' Aditi Prasad, Sunil Jakhar got candid about his decision and revealed why he had resigned. Jakhar said that caste and identity politics had started taking centre stage among some Congress leaders and that politics had gotten muddy now. He also backed Congress' decision to appoint Channi as the chief minister again. "This was the writing on the wall. You don’t change decisions about the chief minister post just because somebody is asking for it. You took a call 4 months ago and if you change then not only are you doubting your own decision, you are undermining the authority of the incumbent CM. That is not done.
