Will PM security breach impact polls? BJP raises pitch, Cong says 'poll stunt'

Published on Jan 10, 2022 08:02 pm IST

Ahead of the crucial Assembly elections in five states, BJP has upped the ante over the January 5 PM security breach in Congress-ruled Punjab and has been frequently targeting the grand old party for allegedly risking the life of the country's prime minister. With BJP president JP Nadda leading the charge himself from the day 1, the saffron party ministers and leaders across the country have been attempting to corner the Congress in public for the PM security breach. The issue has found mention in poll rallies, mostly in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, where BJP is in a strong position but is making all-out efforts to dent the Congress poll victory prospects. The Congress party on its part too has launched a counter-offensive with its Chief Minister in Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi and PCC boss Navjot Singh Sidhu leading the charge. The Congress has accused BJP of creating a drama in a bid to gain the sympathy in upcoming elections, particularly in Punjab, where the saffron party's support base is minimal. But the biggest question remains is: will there be any impact of security breach issue on upcoming polls? Hindustan Times senior editor Aditi Prasad debates with the experts and analysts.
