Kangana's '1947 bheek’ remark row snowballs. Cong, AAP want Padma Shri taken back

Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut’s remarks on India’s Independence received flak from politicians. During an event, the Manikarnika actor described India’s Independence in 1947 as “bheek” or alms. Ranaut said India got real freedom in 2014 when PM Narendra Modi came to power. The clip of her remark at an event organized by TV channel Times Now has been shared widely. Congress hit out at Kangana’s remarks saying they amounted to “treason”. Congress leader and former Union Minister Anand Sharma accused her of insulting freedom fighters including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel.
