U.S. President Donald Trump insisted Russia and Ukraine had agreed to a ceasefire, responding to a reporter’s challenge by saying, “They agreed because I said they agreed.” Speaking outside the White House on October 12, he urged Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky to end the war but did not provide evidence of a mutually accepted ceasefire, its terms or an implementation timetable.
