Gorakhpur battle: Yogi to face SP’s Shubhavati Shukla; Multi-pronged fight

The Gorakhpur Urban seat is set for the most high-profile electoral battle in the seven-phased Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls. It goes to the polls on March 3. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is contesting his first assembly election from this seat. The Samajwadi Party has fielded Subhavati Shukla, the wife of late Upendra Dutt Shukla, a former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader with a history of intra-party tussle with Yogi Adityanath. While the Congress has fielded candidate Chetna Pandey from the Gorakhpur Urban seat, the Bahujan Samaj Party has fielded first-timer Khwaja Shamsuddin against Yogi Adityanath.
