Delhi CM Rekha Gupta on Yamuna pollution increasing again after Chhath lull | HTLS 2025

At the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit 2025, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta acknowledged that Yamuna pollution levels have risen again after the brief improvement seen during Chhath, but insisted her government did not create a “fake clean pond” and that only treated Yamuna water was used at Vasudev Ghat. She framed the river’s condition as part of Delhi’s wider “legacy” pollution problem, pointing to ongoing work on sewage interception, drains and industrial discharge, while arguing that lasting change will take coordinated efforts by Delhi, neighbouring states and local residents rather than short festive clean‑ups.
