‘700% growth in India’s defence exports’: CDS Gen Rawat on ‘aatmanirbhar’ push

Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat, revealed 'staggering' statistics about India's defence export growth. He said that there was a 700% increase in export of defence equipment over a period of three years - from Rs 1,521 crore in 2016-17 to Rs 10,745 crore in 2018-19. General Rawat added that the government's Make In India programme, launched in 2014, had given a clear vision to India's defence industry. The news also came amid a fresh push by the Narendra Modi administration to give a fillip to Indian industries under the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' scheme.
