Soon after the Supreme Court, struck down Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, celebrations broke out across the nation by the LGBT community. However, a few leaders like Subramanian Swamy were not pleased with the decision of the apex court. Gay sex among consenting adults is not an offence, the Supreme Court ordered on Thursday, reading down a British-era section 377 of the penal code that penalises people for their sexual orientation. Delivering separate but concurring judgments, a five-judge bench of the apex court said it is the constitutional and not social morality which will prevail. There were scenes of celebration outside the court immediately after the announcement of the order.
