Lasith Malinga, one of Sri Lanka's best-known fast-bowling stars, was born in Galle. The 34-year-old has played 33 Tests for Sri Lanka and 199 ODIs till July 31, 2017. The right-arm pacer, with a slinging action, is a limited overs specialist. He has taken 101 wickets in Tests and 298 in ODIs. Malinga also has 89 T20 international wickets. Spotted as a raw talent on the beaches of Rathgama, north of Galle, Malinga grew up to be a darling of Sri Lanka's cricket fans.
