- The main tunnel of T-49, India's longest tunnel, has been successfully connected between Sumber and Arpinchala stations of the Katra-Banihal portion of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. With this, 161 kilometres of the 272-kilometer USBRL has been commissioned and operationalized so far. The work on the 111-kilometer stretch between Katra and Banihal is moving along quickly. "A major milestone has been achieved by executing the breakthrough of Tunnel T49 between Sumber and Arpinchala Station on the Katra-Banihal Section. It is worthwhile to mention that the line and level of the tunnel is precisely achieved in break-through," the Northern Railways said in a statement.
