Trump’s war chief roars back after impeachment fire, defends US’ war on Iran

US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth is pushing back against a renewed impeachment threat, dismissing the effort as a “sham” and accusing his opponents of seeking his “personal destruction”. In a video message posted on November 5, Hegseth vowed to fight any impeachment effort in Congress as criticism of the Trump administration’s handling of the Iran war intensifies. Republican Congressman Thomas Massie plans to reintroduce articles of impeachment against Hegseth next week. Meanwhile, the Pentagon chief is urging lawmakers to approve a massive $1.5 trillion defence budget, signalling that he intends to press ahead despite mounting political pressure.
