Indonesia: Students Clash With Police Over Haze Crisis and Economic Woes | Hindustan Times

Tensions flared in Pontianak, Indonesia, as students clashed with police during protests over the government's handling of toxic haze, respiratory illnesses and economic concerns. Months of forest fires have blanketed parts of the country in thick smoke, raising serious health concerns and drawing criticism from residents. Student protesters are demanding action, saying authorities must listen to their concerns and address the crisis. Satellite data from Nusantara Atlas showed Indonesia's burned area surged to 1.92 million hectares by the end of September. The haze has also spread to neighbouring countries, including Singapore, Malaysia and Timor-Leste, affecting communities across the region.
