Kim oversees 1,000-km hypersonic missile test as Pyongyang claims Seoul, Tokyo failed to track it

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw a reported intermediate-range missile test as Pyongyang showcased what it described as a hypersonic strategic weapons system. North Korea’s KCNA said the missile was launched on October 3 and struck a target about 1,000 kilometres away in the sea, while South Korea said it detected a ballistic missile that flew more than 700 kilometres toward the East Sea. Kim Yo Jong claimed South Korea and Japan failed to fully track the missile, citing what Pyongyang described as a “wave-like trajectory mode.” The test came amid heightened tensions on the Korean Peninsula, while U.S. President Donald Trump highlighted his ties with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
