Massive ruckus erupts in Rajya Sabha as Kharge raises rupee fall issue

Published on Dec 09, 2025 04:29 pm IST

A stormy session unfolded in the Rajya Sabha as a massive ruckus erupted during the debate marking 150 years of the national song Vande Mataram. The chaos began after the BJP accused Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge of not sticking to the subject under discussion. During his intervention, Kharge launched a sharp attack on the BJP, raising issues related to India’s foreign policy and the fall of the Indian Rupee against the US Dollar, instead of focusing on Vande Mataram. His remarks triggered strong objections from Treasury bench MPs. Escalating the confrontation, Kharge demanded an apology from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing the government of disrespecting national heroes by politicising the discussion.
