Nepal: Landslide Blocks Budhi Gandaki River, Flash Floods Force Villages To Evacuate

Nepal is facing a serious flood emergency after a landslide blocked the Budhi Gandaki River, creating a temporary natural barrier that later gave way and triggered destructive flooding. Authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to evacuate as floodwaters swept away homes, bridges and infrastructure in central Nepal’s Gorkha district. At least five people were reported missing, while dozens were rescued as emergency teams continued search and evacuation operations. Officials also issued warnings to communities downstream along affected river systems. The disaster has damaged roads and hydropower-related infrastructure, raising concerns over access to remote settlements and the safety of residents as authorities assess the full extent of the destruction.
