Andhra rains: IAF evacuates 10 people stranded in overflowing Chitravahti river

- An IAF Mi-17 helicopter evacuated 10 people stranded in Chitravathi river of Andhra Pradesh. The rescue in Andhra's Ananthapur district was carried out by a winching operation. On receiving a distress call, the chopper took off from IAF Station, Yelahanka in Bengaluru. The Air Force helicopter reached the rescue site negotiating inclement weather conditions. The chopper then safely rescued all stranded people from waters of the fast-flowing river. Heavy rains continue to wreak havoc in many districts of Andhra & neighbouring states. SDRF, police, Fire Services personnel rescued tens of people from Kadapa, Chittoor districts. In Kadapa district, 33 relief camps have been opened & 1,200 persons were lodged in them. The CM spoke with Collectors of districts & asked them to step up rescue, relief measures. IMD issued an alert & said rains are expected to continue in parts of the southern state.
