'If you're...': How Indian-origin CEO fired 900+ employees over Zoom call, video goes viral

More than 900 employees of a US-based homeownership company were fired over a Zoom webinar. As per CNN, the Indian-origin CEO of Better.com cited market efficiency, productivity as reasons behind the move. During Wednesday's webinar CEO Vishal Garg informed 9% of the company's workforce is being laid off. In the short-emotional Zoom call, Garg said this is the second time he is taking such a decision. Garg added that employees could expect an email from HR dept, detailing benefits & severance. Among those fired by Better.com were the diversity, equity & inclusion recruiting team. Job loss during Covid-19 pandemic has been termed 'catastrophic' by many business leaders. In the US, temporary layoffs were cited as the main contributor to the high unemployment rate last year.
