Why PM called 2021 awards #PeoplesPadma: Transgender dancer to tribal activist

Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave an inkling when he referred to this year’s awards as #PeoplesPadma in his tweet. Sports, Bollywood, business stalwarts received Padma Shri awards this year by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind. PV Sindhu, Mary Kom, Kangana Ranaut, Anand Mahindra were among those who received the award. But among the stalwarts were also many little-known faces who received the honor this year. Tulsi Gowda, a tribal environmentalist, received the award for her contribution towards conserving the environment. Matha B Manjamma Jogati received Padma Shri for her contribution to arts. She is the first trans-woman president of Karnataka Janapada Academy. Watch the video for more details.
