Modi govt invokes emergency rules for coal-based power plants. Here's Why

India has decided to invoke emergency rules to avoid blackouts during the summer season. Bloomberg reported that the- Narendra Modi government has asked all imported coal-based (ICB) power plants in India to operate and generate power at their full capacity in the ensuing summer months. As per a February 20 order issued by the Power Ministry, the government has taken this decision as the peak power demand is expected to touch 229 gigawatt (GW) in April.
