The devastating floods in Nepal have once again highlighted the growing vulnerability of the Himalayas to sudden and cascading disasters. Scientists say the latest event was likely triggered by a glacial collapse and debris flow rather than rainfall, making it harder to predict. A US Geological Survey analysis reportedly identified the seismic signal as being caused by a glacial collapse, after early reports suggested an earthquake.
