Fresh tensions have emerged in Manipur’s Thoubal district following the killing of a man during stone-pelting between two villages on October 18, followed by incidents of arson. Khangabok, a Meitei Hindu-majority village, and Sangaiyumpham, a Meitei Muslim-majority village, remain on edge, with security forces deployed to prevent further clashes. Authorities have imposed restrictions, ordered licensed gun holders to surrender their weapons and recently lifted a curfew. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh visited both villages and assured residents that peace talks would be organised.
