Pakistan PM's desperate rant fearing water shortage as India keeps Indus Waters Treaty suspended

Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has issued a strong warning to India over the Indus Waters Treaty, saying Islamabad would give a “direct response” if Pakistan’s water supplies were threatened. Speaking at an event on the eve of Pakistan’s Independence Day, Sharif said Pakistan wanted peace but its desire for peace should not be mistaken for weakness. Sharif described water as a red line for Pakistan, warning that any threat to the country’s water supply or sovereignty would trigger a strong response. His remarks come amid continuing tensions over the Indus Waters Treaty, which India placed in abeyance following the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025 that killed 26 people.
