PM Modi's Hormuz Strait message after call with Iran President amid US-Tehran tensions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian discussed the evolving situation in West Asia during a phone call, with India reiterating the need for lasting peace, regional stability, and uninterrupted maritime trade. PM Modi welcomed the progress made in ongoing negotiations and expressed hope that continued diplomatic efforts would lead to durable peace. He also stressed the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route that is vital for India's energy security and international commerce. According to the Indian government, Modi reaffirmed India's consistent position that all issues should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy while emphasising the need to safeguard maritime trade and commercial shipping.
